garabage

I have a brand new Imac 27in only for 7 days and i douwnloaded this the first time i use it was ok then the second a few days later my computer laged i was almost at the point of returning the Mac but i deleted the program and seems to be fine now, but while the program ran i could not do anything.

HMMMM.. not useful

Macs dont need this just follow apple software updates.. by going to the apple logo in the upper left logo and press "software update.." and install everything and u will be safe :)

Just a guy

I am not an IT expert. I have to pretty much trust the software I used Dr Web with my dell with windows for quite a while never had a virus problem. I hope the mac version is as good. I have not had the problem with false positives. I happy with it crossed fingers.

Uninstalled

I have used it Twice ..not sure whether if works or not 3 threats the first time none the second but the whole time it was scanning my 6 month old Macbook Pro the temp was hoving in around 206 degrees normally it is 130 and the fans speed went from 1500 to 6000 … not wanting to burn my mac up I have uninstalled it ..

Dr Web app should be removed until it has been determined they did not cause the malware problem

I down load per the suggetion of an Apple rep then ran it which took over 8 hours. I found out after that this is the same company that first found out about the malware 2012 problem with mac and that Apple attempted to shut down one of Dr Webs servers down for fear they were installing the malware. I honestly can not believe Apple has this app on their website still which I was told by two Apple reps that each app provider is researched prior to posting on the Apple website. I am now very nervous that Dr Web has some how obtained my personal info by installing Dr Webs antivirus app which I have sinced removed. I personally think that Apple should see if this is the cause of the malware that has effected over 500,000 mac computers.

THANKS SOOOOOOO MUCH

I have just gotten my first iMac and very concerned with anything that could give me viruses. After trying to download some games online, I found my computer was acting a bit slower and would disconnect with my keyboard, mouse, and wi-fi randomly. I was quite alarmed. I did some research and found out about this about and after waiting for it to fully scan my computer (it took hours but well worth it ;) it found one virus that I wouldve missed because after I downloaded my games, I put the files in the trash and emptied it. Well, to make a long story short, I got a virus, found it, and quarantined it. THANK YOU Dr.Web!!! One more thing, I would like it a bit better if the "time left:" part would display a number instead of continually loading.

Froze both my Macs!

Froze one of my Macs twice and the other once and only way to reboot was to pull the plug in both cases…never did give any REAL results (never finished so how could it?) so I find it is exactly worth what you pay for it ($0). This thing is really JUNK plus wasted three hours of my time trying & retrying to get it to scan and finish even once. If they want it to be decent then redesign it and do charge for it, but make it work or delete it from the app store. The "light" left me in the dark totally! Dont bother!

Get this, then get ClamXav as a back–up.

Contrary to popular belief, OS X is no longer virus–proof (if it ever really was). There have been a number of cross–platform viruses recently (mostly exploiting Java) that have been hitting users of traditionally ‘safe’ operating systems like OS X and Linux. Dr Web Light, along with ClamXav, are the best anti–virus tools Ive found for OS X. Dr Webs database is typically more current, so it is more likely to catch things ClamXav has missed. I have rooted out infections in the HDs of a few different Macs by this point— and none of them belonged to users prone to risky activity. While you may not feel like you need it, its good to have around. At least one of the current bugs was preventing users from searching for anti–virus programs on Google, among other things.

Good Powerful Scanner

First off, let me start by saying dont listen to the guy who said this was a virus, he probably didnt have the correct system requirements. Secondly, my first review I ever wrote in the Mac App store, and honestly, this scanner is definately worth your time, I dont know why it has so many 1 stars, maybe previous versions were not good, but the current version, believe me, it is great. Other good scanners are the Bitdefender scanner which I like, and use as a backup for Dr. Web, another one I dont like, but others say ClamXav is good, stay away from iAntivirus by Symantec. I will say this scanner takes a long time if you have a big hard drive, but better safe than sorry, because it scans very thorough. All in all, you dont really need a paid virus solution until mega viruses come out for mac like windows virus. The only thing you need if you really want protection is a virus scanner, do a full scan, then everything you install from now on you will just simply do a custom scan on it. Simple right?

Surprised by the average rating.

This is effective and easy to use. Personally, Ive had a great experience using Dr. Web Light thus far.

Threat list is meager and UI only lets you drag-and-drop to scan anything other than full system

I actually downloaded all the free anti-virus apps and here’s what I found… iAntivirus: rated best. It had the most protection/coverage with 192 MB and was the only app that lets you see the actual viruses you’re protected against. Bitdefender rated second in coverage, but gave spurious messages about quarantined files that you put in your safelist. ClamXav was third, but it doesn’t look or behave like a standard Mac App and has a broken “quit” button (if you can get over that, it’s sufficient). VirusBarrier Express is next, but it protects against only a subset of Windows threats (Express is right!). Dr.Web Light is… well, last. The drop-down box in the “Threats”/ “Quarantine” tab appear broken, it doesn’t appear to handle Windows threats, and the only mechanism for scanning anything other than the system is drag-and-drop. It’s neither intuitive, nor comprehensive in coverage. In short all of the above were functionally similar: they didn’t crash, they didn’t take over my machine, and they worked as advertised. The one I kept was the one that had the most protection and the most transparency. iAntivirus is from Norton/Symantec and they already have years of collecting definitions, so it makes sense they are the most complete. IMHO that’s what matters.

FILLED my SSD with tmp files and left them there

The first thing I did with Dr. Web, naturally, was to run a ful scan. It ran all 4 cores at 100% on my rMBP (per TechToolPro) and got the fan running on high; my thought was "great, its doing the scan as fast as possible." When it was over, Id gone from about 190G free to less than half a Gig free. Poking around, I discovered that most of this new material was in a TMP folder. After checking some of the folder contents, I deleted it and had my drive back. The next day (today), however, I tried to open a long document Ive been working on for a month or so and discovered it had been truncated to 48K. Maybe coincidence but I doubt it.

Dr. Web Light rawks!

The proof is in the pudding... when I first installed it, my MacBook Pro was running slowly, a problem I attributed to crappy Wi-Fi. The program found FOUR threats and cleaned them. The difference was like night and day. The MBP was slow this morning, so I did an Express Scan (>8 minutes) and it found ANOTHER threat! I will stop blaming the Wi-Fi at my local Starbucks. If you have any kind of Mac, GET THIS! Seriously.

Light for sure

was not able to detected no even one of my tracking cookies , free maybe but not work the time to think you have a real scanner when you dont have anything , it is better to expend the money for a Macscan app then to wasted your time installing this .

Total Crap!

Tried 4 time to run this, Kept locking up my Mac. When I finally got it to run a full scan (took about 3 hours), it showed about half of my legit / clean programs as being infected, but with no virus defination details. It even showed a couple of clean Window Files Ive had for 10 years stored on my Mac as infected. I un-installed it with CleanMyMac just to be sure I got it all out, with no remnants left over. Ive been running iAntiVirus for about three years, and thought Id give this a try, since Norton has recently aquired iAntiVirus, and now I no longer trust it. I keep a very clean machine, so with so many false positives, theres no way of feeling this is a good or useful product.

Good detection rates

In terms of detection of Mac malware by App Store anti-virus apps, Dr. Web Light is second only to VirusBarrier Express. And even then, only barely. Detection of recent malware was at 100%, equivalent to VirusBarrier Express. (This conclusion comes from personally testing against 128 different Mac malware samples in a controlled environment.)

Satisfied Customer

I am a satified customer with this app. It helps me keep the Mac in tip top shape.

Difficulty with Dr. Web Light

After downloading this App. I tried a partial scan of my Mac. It said it would take more than 34 hours to complete the scan. I tried to stop the scan and could not. I had to restart my Mac, using the power button. It was lock up because of Dr. Web. I tried to scan files that I chose, it scan several short files but would not scan my “download” files. I have tried five or six times to scan this file and Dr. Web locks up my Mac and does not complete the scan. I am erasing this program form my Mac. The only good news is the software was “free”.

The BEST ANTIVIRUS APP!!!!!!

This app did everything it said it would!!! and more. I tried more than 3 different antivirus apps and they all failed to find the malware on my computer that were clearly there with all the pop up and ads bombing my screen. Dr. Webb caught them on a quick scan to easy. Definatily the #1 chocie app to use!!
